Ceiling clouds and baffles are horizontal (cloud) or vertical (baffle) acoustic panels suspended from the structural slab on hangers. Because they absorb on both faces, they deliver more absorption per unit of material than a full suspended ceiling. Frequently chosen for modern offices, restaurants, workshops and cafés where the industrial look is preserved.
What are ceiling clouds and baffles?
A ceiling cloud is typically a 60×120 cm or larger horizontal panel suspended from the ceiling. A baffle is a thin but tall vertical panel suspended like a fin and arranged in rows. Both leave the structural ceiling exposed; services and lighting remain visible, preserving an industrial/loft aesthetic.
Cloud panel
- Size: 60×120, 120×120, 120×240 cm
- Thickness: 30 / 40 / 50 mm
- NRC: 0.80-0.95
- Suspension: steel cable or rod from the ceiling
- Form: flat or gently curved
Baffle panel
- Size: 30×120, 40×240, 50×120 cm vertical
- Thickness: 25 / 40 mm
- Layout: fin row at fixed spacing (60-100 cm)
- Effect: absorption on both side and bottom faces
- Visual: dynamic ceiling composition
Where they are used
- Open-plan offices and coworking
- Workshops, lofts and industrial-style spaces
- Restaurants, cafés and gourmet venues
- Stores and showrooms
- School atria, libraries
- Conference and auditorium ceiling acoustics
Advantages
- Structural ceiling kept exposed — industrial aesthetic preserved
- Absorption on both faces → high efficiency per material
- Free positioning of services and lighting
- Easily removable and re-arrangeable
- Colour, print and fabric-cover options
How to size coverage
Typical recommendation: cover 30-50% of the ceiling area with clouds/baffles. Less coverage gives insufficient absorption; more is economically wasteful. We recommend an acoustic engineer's calculation against the target T60 (reverberation time).
