Vibration hanger mounts and acoustic hanger systems are elastomer-rubber or steel-spring damping elements that mechanically decouple a suspended ceiling from the structural slab. With natural frequencies in the 6-15 Hz range they break both structural vibration and low-frequency airborne sound. A standard component in studios, cinemas, MEP rooms and sensitive acoustic spaces.
What are vibration hanger mounts?
Standard suspended-ceiling hangers connect metal-to-metal directly to the slab, transmitting structure-borne sound (impact, vibration) into the suspended ceiling. Acoustic hangers and vibration mounts insert a rubber or spring damping element at that point and break the transmission path — improving both airborne and impact-noise performance.
System types
- Rubber hanger mount: EPDM/elastomeric, fn 8-15 Hz
- Steel-spring hanger: fn 4-8 Hz, highest isolation
- Combined rubber + spring: high + low frequency together
- Adhesive ceiling clip: lightweight application on plasterboard ceilings
Technical data
- Load capacity: 5-50 kg / mount
- Natural frequency (fn): 4-15 Hz
- Damping ratio: 5-15% of critical
- Temperature range: -30 °C / +90 °C
- Service life: 15-25 years
- Certification: CE, certified damping data
Where they are needed
- Recording studios, cinemas, post-production
- Critical acoustic areas below MEP rooms
- Hotel-room ceilings under upper-floor walking zones
- Conferences, theatres, auditoriums
- Above hospital operating and intensive-care rooms
- Ceilings of anechoic and measurement rooms
Which mount to choose
- Light ceiling + standard comfort: rubber mount
- Studio / cinema: steel-spring (4-6 Hz)
- Under an MEP room: combined rubber + spring
- Refurbing an existing ceiling: adhesive clip
How they are installed
Hanger spacing is set by design load (typically 1.0-1.2 m). A mount or spring is placed at each hanger; the carrier rod fits above or below the mount. Critical: a single rigid (bridged) hanger short-circuits the system; every hanger must be the same type with the same load.
