Tecsound is a thin acoustic membrane family produced from a mineral-loaded synthetic-elastomer compound. At 2-4 mm thickness it delivers 4-7 kg/m² mass, providing high Rw gain even in slim build-ups. Available in self-adhesive and plain types and applied as a sandwich layer between plasterboard, foam and panels.
What is Tecsound?
Tecsound is a class of thin but heavy acoustic membranes made by loading a synthetic-elastomer matrix with high-density minerals. Compared to classic PVC barriers it provides equivalent or higher mass at smaller thickness — a critical advantage where floor space matters.
Technical data
- Density: 1900-2100 kg/m³
- Surface weight: 4 / 5 / 7 kg/m²
- Thickness: 1.9 / 2.6 / 3.8 mm (slim profile)
- Rw gain: 28-34 dB (single layer)
- Adhesive type: self-adhesive or plain
- Fire class: BS 476 Class 0, EN 13501 B-s1, d0
Tecsound vs PVC barrier
- Thickness: Tecsound ~2 mm vs PVC ~3-4 mm
- Density: Tecsound ~2000 kg/m³ vs PVC ~1600-1800 kg/m³
- Performance/thickness: Tecsound more efficient
- Cost: Tecsound higher
- Choice: Tecsound where space is tight, PVC where it isn't
Where it is used
- Sandwich layer in studio and cinema walls
- Apartment and villa acoustic refurbs
- Hotel room partitions and ceilings
- Yacht and special-vehicle acoustic insulation
- Above suspended ceilings to stop sound bleed
- Industrial equipment enclosures
Installation
Self-adhesive types peel and stick directly. Plain types are fixed with acoustic adhesive or mechanical fasteners. Joints are overlapped 5 cm and sealed with acoustic tape. Detail (sockets, conduits, edges) sealing is the key factor in overall performance.
