BS 476 Class 0 is the UK standard published by BSI that limits the rate at which fire spreads across interior building lining materials. Materials passing BS 476 Part 6 (Fire Propagation Index) and BS 476 Part 7 (Surface Spread of Flame) earn "Class 0"; our acoustic panel, foam and membrane products are compliant.
What is BS 476 Class 0?
BS 476 is the UK family of fire-test standards. Class 0 is the highest class for interior surface materials, limiting how quickly fire spreads along a wall. It is mandatory for fire-sensitive projects (hotels, hospitals, schools, offices, public spaces).
Test components
- BS 476 Part 6: Fire Propagation Index (FPI)
- BS 476 Part 7: Surface Spread of Flame (Class 1)
- Class 0 = Part 6 (FPI ≤ 12, sub i1 ≤ 6) + Part 7 Class 1
- Class 1: lowest spread — the rung below Class 0
- Class 2-4: higher spread — limited use indoors

Class 0 vs European B-s1, d0
BS 476 Class 0 is the legacy UK standard (used since 1971). Its EU equivalent is EN 13501 B-s1, d0. The two measure structurally similar conditions, but the certificate documents differ. In Türkiye both are accepted; the project specification dictates which one is required in public tenders.
Certificate verification
Every Class 0 certified product carries a UKAS-accredited laboratory test report. Production lots are traceable; on project handover the certificate copy is submitted in the technical file along with the delivery note bearing the production date.
