UNI 9175:2008 Class 1IM (M1) is the Italian Standards Institute classification of the fire behaviour of interior lining materials in public-access spaces. Class 1 is the top fire-safety class and IM (Improved Material) denotes enhanced ignition resistance. Mandatory for cinemas, hotels, stages, train/aircraft interiors and public buildings.
What is UNI 9175 Class 1IM?
UNI 9175 is the Italian standard for fire safety of interior lining materials in public buildings. The test evaluates the material's ignition resistance, fire-spread rate and dripping behaviour together. Class 1IM is the top class — it does not ignite, does not sustain combustion and does not drip even on direct flame contact.

- Class 3-5: high fire spread → not suitable for public-access spaces

UNI 9175 vs EN 13501
UNI 9175 is still widely used in Italy; the EU-wide current standard is EN 13501 (Euroclass). Class 1IM corresponds approximately to B-s1, d0 in EN 13501. Both are accepted in Türkiye; the public tender specification dictates which is required.
Certificate verification
Every Class 1IM product carries a test report from an accredited Italian laboratory. Certificates are traceable by lot number and submitted in the technical file at project handover.
