Silencers are acoustic elements that reduce sound in air or gas ducts (HVAC, exhaust, generator outlets, industrial process) while keeping pressure drop to a minimum. Absorption, dissipative, reactive or hybrid types deliver insertion loss 15-50 dB; a standard component in gensets, HVAC and industrial processes.
What is a silencer?
A silencer is a family of elements that absorb or reflect a sound wave travelling along an air or gas duct while keeping flow loss (pressure drop) low. Built from mineral-wool absorber baffles, resonant chambers or expansion sections, it operates on the principle of "flow passes, sound does not".
Silencer types
- Absorption (dissipative): mineral-wool filled, broadband, HVAC standard
- Reactive (chambered): cellular, narrow band, for low frequency
- Hybrid: broadband + low frequency
- Splitter / lamellar: large ventilation ducts
- Tube (round) silencer: matched to duct diameter
- Exhaust silencer: high-temperature, stainless inside

- Target IL spectrum (per octave band)
- Maximum acceptable pressure drop
- Flow velocity (m/s) and volume (m³/h)

- Fire and hygiene class (mandatory for HVAC)
Engineering process
1) Measure existing flow and on-site LpA per octave band. 2) Set target IL spectrum. 3) Compute silencer length, baffle count and spacing. 4) Optimise pressure drop to the target limit. 5) Manufacture, integrate into the duct and verify with measurement.
