Fitness / sports gym

Floating screed, multi-layer walls and vibration isolation for impact noise and loud music in fitness, pilates and dance studios.

TL;DR

Fitness and sports gym acoustics is the comprehensive insulation design that addresses dropped weights, treadmill vibration, loud music and group-class music. For a gym beneath flats, floating screed + multi-layer walls + vibration isolation is the mandatory standard — without it, complaints from upstairs and the risk of forced closure follow quickly.

Gym acoustics — why is it critical?

Fitness and sports gyms are among the highest impact-noise venues. Dropped dumbbells, treadmill vibration and group-class music (spinning, zumba) generate structure-borne vibration and airborne noise into neighbouring buildings. A gym beneath flats triggers complaints upstairs almost immediately.

Typical noise sources

  • Dropped dumbbells (structural impact)
  • Treadmill motor vibration
  • Group-class music (high dB + bass)
  • Pilates / yoga instructor microphone
  • Boxing / kickboxing impact noise
  • CrossFit / functional training noise
  • HVAC fan noise

Solution components

  1. Floating concrete screed: 80-120 mm — impact-noise control
  2. Multi-layer walls: independent double-leaf (Rw 55+ dB)
  3. Vibroacoustically suspended ceiling: reduces transfer to the floor above
  4. Acoustic door (Rw 35+ dB)
  5. Equipment vibration mounts: treadmills, exercise bikes
  6. Rubber floor finish: additional impact damping
  7. Duct silencer: HVAC noise

Floating screed — non-negotiable

Without a floating screed, dropped dumbbells transmit straight into the slab below. A 30 dB ΔLw improvement is possible with surface treatments alone, but reaching the 50+ dB target needs a floating screed. For any gym beneath flats it is non-negotiable.

Group-class room — special design

Spinning, zumba and pilates rooms combine high music dB with an instructor microphone. Interior acoustic (RT60 0.5-0.7 s) becomes important here; an over-reverberant room hurts instructor intelligibility.

Target performance

  • Sound insulation Rw: 55-65 dB
  • Impact noise reduction ΔLw: 28-35 dB
  • Indoor level in upper flat: 30-35 dBA
  • Interior RT60: 0.5-0.7 s (group-class room)

Time and cost

A typical gym takes 4-8 weeks. Investment is significant due to the floating screed, but mandatory against complaint and closure risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fitness / sports hall — which materials do you use?
Depending on project requirements, we use acoustic foam, barrier-backed foam, lead/EPDM barrier, elastomeric rubber, rock wool and double-layer plasterboard systems. All our materials carry international fire-resistance certifications.
How much noise reduction do I get after the application?
It varies according to the existing structure, the adjacent noise level and the target use. Typical residential applications achieve 25-40 dB and industrial projects 35-55 dB. The exact value is confirmed by acoustic measurement.
Do I need to move my existing furniture?
It is enough to clear sufficient space so we can work in the application area. Our installation team takes protective measures for furniture; for small applications minimal rearrangement is sufficient.
How can I request a quote?
You can reach us by phone (+90 530 044 09 90), WhatsApp or our contact form. After a brief conversation we schedule an on-site survey.
