Rubber underlay is a high-density floor acoustic sheet produced by pressing recycled rubber granules with an elastomeric binder. With plain or cork-reinforced variants it delivers ΔLw 18-28 dB impact-noise reduction beneath floating floors. The base layer in residential, office, gym and school floors.
What is rubber underlay?
Rubber underlay is a high-density (700-900 kg/m³) granulated-rubber sheet. Placed under a floating screed, it absorbs the dynamic impact load and reduces vibration and impact noise transmitted to the floor below. Two main groups: plain and cork-reinforced.
Technical data
- Density: 700-900 kg/m³
- Thickness: 5 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 15 mm
- Sheet: 100×100, 100×200 cm or 1.25 m roll
- ΔLw (impact-noise reduction): 18-28 dB
- Dynamic stiffness: ≤ 30 MN/m³
- Fire class: BS 476 Class 0, UNI 9175 Class 1IM
Where it is used
- Residential floating floors
- Hotel rooms and corridors
- Office and commercial floors
- Schools, kindergartens, universities
- Fitness, dance and sports gym floors
- Studio and recording-room float floors
Plain vs cork-reinforced
- Plain rubber: higher density, ideal for heavy impact
- Cork-reinforced: lighter impact + thermal insulation combo
- Cork ratio: 30-50% reinforcement
- Preference: cork for residential, plain for fitness
How is it installed?
Sheets are laid flat (no overlap) on a clean concrete base. Joints are sealed with acoustic tape. Edge strip along the perimeter prevents the screed from contacting the wall. A min. 5 cm reinforced screed is poured on top; once cured, the finish layer is applied.
